July 29, 2017

State Police have identified the second person killed in a three vehicle crash on U.S. 50 at Stanford Street in Flora early Thursday morning.

27-year-old Jacob Russell Stewart of Olney is identified as the driver of a utility vehicle that was second struck by a semi when it swerved into the wrong lane of travel. The driver of the mini-van that was struck first, 29-year-old Eric Bosel, was also killed. Both the Stewart and Bosel vehicles caught fire following impact and running off the north side of the road.

The driver of the semi, 65-year-old Walter Pollock of Sikeston, Missouri, has been ticketed for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and improper lane usage. He was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 when he swerved into the westbound lane and hit the two on-coming vehicles. Pollock was taken to the Clay County Hospital in Flora for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police and the Clay County Coroner’s Office. It occurred at 5:51 Thursday morning.
