O’Fallon Man Faces Numerous Charges After Leading Centralia Police on Foot Chase

August 7, 2017

A 24-year-old O’Fallon, Illinois man is being held in the Marion County Jail on multiple charges after he was allegedly found in possession of a loaded gun and drugs after a foot chase with Centralia Police.

Slade Thompson was arrested for being a felon in possession of a weapon, no valid FOID card, armed violence, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, and obstructing justice.

Centralia Police say they recognized Thompson, who was wanted on a warrant, while he was walking near Rexford and Lincoln late Saturday afternoon. Thompson was asked to come talk to the officer, but fled on foot instead. When the officer got close enough, he ordered Thompson to stop or be tased. Thompson laid on the ground at that point.

Police say a search turned up a loaded .22 short revolver in one pocket and a black bag in his other pocket that contained a baggie containing what field tested as methamphetamine, a scale that contained meth residue and $132 in cash.

While being questioned by police, Thompson allegedly told them he had swallowed a baggie containing a gram of meth while running from them. He was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was treated and released before being taken to the Marion County Jail.
