Bond Set At $75,000 Bond for Alma Man Charged With Home Invasion and Weapons Violations
Bond has been set at $75,000 for a 28-year-old Alma man who was formally charged in Marion County Court Monday with home invasion, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Rollie Rozkiewicz of Broadway is accused in the Class X home invasion charge of kicking in the door of his estranged wife’s home while armed with a rifle and discharging the gun. If convicted, the charge requires 26 to 30 years in prison with no possibility of probation.
Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Merrill had argued for a bond of $100,000. He told Judge Mark Stedelin he couldn’t think of anything more dangerous than a person kicking in the door of a home carrying a gun. He also noted Rozkiewicz was apparently under the influence, even though he was on court supervision on a DUI conviction from last year.
Public Defender Craig Griffin argued for just a $10,000 bond. He noted Rozkiewicz has not had a history of violence, lived in Marion County his entire life, has a fulltime job and has strong ties to the area. However, Griffin admitted not having knowledge of the case yet when Merrill countered that Rozkiewicz had walked aggressively towards and officer and was tased before being taken into custody.
Rozkiewicz had the public defender appointed to represent him. If released on bond, he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or her residence and surrender his FOID card to the sheriff’s department.
